Active Sunderland is an initiative set up by Sunderland City Council to help get the people of the city more involved in sport and exercise. Active Sunderland brings together the cities sports groups and its residents into one Community Sports Network, in a bid to make the city a place where it is easy for anyone to take part in sport.
Active Sunderland can help anyone find a sport for them, this includes providing useful information on tennis in the local area. The city has courts on offer in local parks as well as offering a world class tennis facility at Silksworth, which has held the Aegon GB Pro-Series event.
This summer, Active Sunderland is holding a series of community sports festivals for the people and sports of the area. These will take place during the summer holidays giving parents and children alike the chance to pick up a new sport and get active. The first of these events begins on 26 July at the Seaburn Beach and Promenade, when the Big Community Sports Festival kicks off.
